Every year, thousands of concerned citizens in over 85 communities across the nation walk together to raise money and awareness to ensure vital, free NAMI programs and services are available to provide help and hope to those in need.

Through NAMIWalks’ public, active display of support for people affected by mental illness, we are changing our communities and ensuring that help and hope are available for those in need.

Walk with NAMI Oklahoma

NAMIWalks is normally a time for individuals and families impacted by mental illness to come together with advocates to:

  • Promote awareness of mental health and reduce stigma

  • Raise funds to support NAMI’s mission of advocacy, education and public awareness

  • Build community and let people know they are not alone.

Since we can’t be together this year, NAMIWalks for Oklahoma and it’s affiliates will  become a virtual experience joined by NAMIWalks participants across the country. Local participation will take place on May 30 with NAMIWalks Your Way Oklahoma: A Virtual Event. You can walk a 5K at home or do something else meaningful and fun.

Come together for a common goal even while we’re apart. Anxiety and depression correlate with isolation, all of which affect mental health. Lead or join a team to raise funds for mental health during this critical period for both public and personal wellbeing.

NAMIWalks Your Way is an event to showcase our shared commitment to end the stigma that surrounds mental illness, bring awareness to the importance of mental health and is a fundraiser for NAMI Oklahoma. This year, we have set a goal of $110,000. Your donations are used to fund local programs and services such as support groups, education programs and grassroots advocacy.

To start or join a NAMIWalks team, visit our NAMI Oklahoma walk site to register today - It’s free! All participants are encouraged to collect donations to support NAMI’s no-cost programs and services in their community. All walkers raising $100 or more receive a commemorative NAMIWalks t-shirt.

We recognize that the stigma of mental illness continues to be a reality for many people. Some people simply may not want to participate in NAMIWalks Your Way for fear of being judged.

As a result, NAMI Oklahoma has partnered with the Oklahoma City Energy for this year’s Move for Mental Health Initiative. Local soccer players have chosen to speak for the connection between mental health and physical health. Move for Mental Health is a reminder that good health requires that we take care of our minds just as we take care of our bodies. Being at your best correlates with positive mental health too. The Oklahoma City Energy’s players are committed to raising awareness about the importance of mental health.

In times of crisis like this, mental health services are needed more than ever and NAMI Oklahoma is serving the community via telephone and remote services until we are able to meet in groups again.

NAMI Oklahoma relies on fundraising from events such as this, and those needs have not gone away. Together in the difficult times, we can and will prevail.
