Shining the Spotlight on Ruth Mojica
Meet Ruth Mojica, she’s an advocate and teacher that gives us hope for brighter futures for those living with mental illness and their families.
Ruth is a retired educator that is putting her skills and passion into her volunteer work with NAMI. Ruth stood by her daughter, whom lives with serious mental illness, for 20 years before finding NAMI. Attending NAMI Family-to-Family class was life-changing for her and ignited her passion to help other families affected by mental illness right in her own community -- Norman, Oklahoma. Through NAMI Family-to-Family she has helped families learn to better relate to their loved one. Ruth recently took the steps to become a trained teacher for NAMI SMARTS for Advocacy; a hands-on advocacy training program that helps people living with mental illness, friends and family transform their passion and lived experience into skillful grassroots advocacy. Through Ruth’s efforts she is not only helping to support and improve the lives of those living with mental illness and their families but also working as an advocate and training other advocate for improved services for those living with mental health conditions.
